All Rusian Visas should be registered upon arrival to the Russian Federation
According to Russian law, your Russian visa must be registered within 72 hours upon your arrival (excluding weekends and official holidays).
- If you are staying at a hotel, the hotel will register your visa. You will be asked to produce your visa and passport. A small registration fee can be imposed.
- If you are NOT staying at a hotel, you will have to register your visa at the local Police Precinct. As registration rules for private accommodation are complicated and change often, please contact our local Moscow or St Petersburg representative immediately upon arrival.
Multiple entry business visas for 1 year are registered for 6 months only. Foreign citizens with 1-year business visas will have to leave Russia after the first 6 months and spend time in another country. Registration is to be renewed after foreign citizens re enter Russia.
Please note that not registering your Russian visa may lead to serious problems: detention by police, fines on departure, prevention from boarding the plane, etc. We strongly advise you to register your Russian visa to avoid possible unnecessary inconveniences.
Please Note:
Travellers who are departing Russia by train should be aware that if they board a train on the last day of a visa's validity, Russian immigration officials may consider the visa to have expired if the train crosses the international border after midnight on the day of expiry. The Embassy and Consulates General are aware of cases in which travellers have been detained at border crossings, unable to leave Russia, because their visas were expired by a matter of hours or minutes.
